Philip Price comes from a family of artists. He’s inspired by his father’s practice — “When I was a kid, my dad taught me how to paint,” he says. “Now I draw all the time.” Price is deeply interested in the world of comics, anime, TV and movies, animation, and superheroes. He uses his work to highlight some of his favorite characters. In the studio he spends hours perfecting the shading and curves of chins, noses, biceps, pectorals. “I like clay because you can smooth out sculptures and details,” he says of his recent sculptural work. “I also like doing some good pottery. I love clay so much because I can work out a sculpture, piece by piece, and do a little at a time.”
