Capturing an evocative stillness, Maria Keleher’s paintings freeze figures within their domestic and natural settings. Flowers, a solitary woman, a black dog, and pairs of ducks occupy her compositions, set against a signature deeply saturated blue or bright white background. The figures she depicts seem to meet the viewer’s gaze, inviting us to pause and share in their tranquil worlds. Maria works steadily and with quiet determination; when asked what she hopes for in her future as an artist, she replied simply, “Paper to paint on, and paint to paint with.”
Maria Keleher has shown her work at Interact Gallery (St. Paul, MN), Silverwood Park (St. Anthony, MN), and at the Minneapolis Central Library (Minneapolis, MN).
