Careful attention to shape and color inform Luke Lyons’s drawings and, more recently, his hand built ceramic vessels. With his ceramic works, Lyons undergoes a rigorous glaze and prototyping process before arriving at the final piece. His works on paper trace a period of time a number of years ago, when he was still honing the drafting skills of his nondominant hand. In rows of abstract forms, they symbolize a daily regimen that he underwent to build muscle memory. "The structure of my process was the direct result of a TBI, which impacted my dominant hand – my right hand – significantly,” says Lyons. “I have since trained my left hand as dominant through my artwork over several years.”
Lyons has presented work in exhibitions throughout the Twin Cities, including Randomland at The White Page (2019), Groundswell at Artspace Jackson Flats (2019), and We Are Not Disposable (online, 2020). In 2015, Lyons designed a hole at the Saint Paul mini golf course, CanCan Wonderland.
