HML is a multimedia artist with a background as a seamstress. Her delicately woven fiber works, neon pastel drawings, and corporeal soft sculptures are simultaneously meticulous and radical, gentle and subversive. In recent soft sculptures, such as Muscle Suit, HML explores the intersection of disability, gender identity, and sexuality. Her creative practice is driven by the ability to gain personal insights, express herself, build a career, and fulfill a lifelong dream of being an artist.
She has exhibited work in galleries and institutions throughout Minnesota, including The White Page, the Lab Theater, and Minnesota Museum of American Art. In 2018, HML was awarded Second Place in Mixed Media for her fiber work in Art of Possibilities, a national exhibition at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute. In 2020, she exhibited work alongside 30 international artists in Art | Unlocked | Unearthed, an exhibition organized by UK-based Jennifer Lauren Gallery. In 2023, HML was an artist in residence at Interact Gallery.
