Daniel Metchnek (1967-2024) identified as a Native American and Korean American artist. Symbols from his family’s history are an important part of his work. Metchnek often combined cultural symbols and wildlife to create images like Native Eagle Dreamcatcher, which was painted by Metchnek in 2018. He liked to explore animal subjects and wanted people to think about his experiences when viewing his work —particularly his use of color and his interest in different animals.
