Briana S. “A.” works across fibers, wearable art, painting, ceramics, and mixed media to explore aspects of pop culture and identity. An avid reader and movie collector, her work responds to characters and symbolism in films like Wonder Woman (2017), which she describes as filled with “wonder and adventure.” In 2019, she reimagined the superhero’s dress, adding hand sewn “W” patches over each breast and polka dotted straps. Recent works include a life-size Chucky sculpture after the horror movie character, made collaboratively with Juan Mendez and HML, as well as Lady in a Pearl Earring, a painting that references Vermeer’s famous portrait.
