In the last 20+ years, Bill Crane has developed a massive body of work composed largely of ink drawings and acrylic paintings. In densely filled pages, explosive fields of color, and loosely rendered figures, Crane expresses his love of nature, animals, and friends — often referencing scenes from the Interact studio, where he has long found inspiration. An avid observer of the everyday, Crane records the people and places that move him. In 2019, he made a time-lapse video of the Interact studio that features colleagues and friends, capturing works in progress and the collaborative nature of the space.
Since 2019, Crane has served on Interact’s Artist Advisory Council, a group nominated by their peers to develop exhibitions and advocate for the careers of Interact artists. He has presented work in venues in Minnesota and beyond, including the Minnesota Museum of American Art, the Diana E. Murphy Federal Courthouse, Interact Gallery, The White Page, Artspace Jackson Flats, and Art Enables (Washington, D.C.). In 2005, Crane participated in an exhibition hosted by Sense Scotland, and in 2000 he presented Visions on Paper, a solo exhibition at Interact Gallery. Forthcoming in Summer 2024, he will be an artist in residence at Interact Gallery.
