"Rooted In Nature" | Interact at Minnesota Landscape Arboretum
Opens October 19, 2023
Interact and Minnesota Landscape Arboretum are pleased to present Rooted in Nature, an exhibition by 26 artists that explores ecology.
Working across drawing, painting, and fibers, 26 artists from Interact explore the natural world as well as the human relationship to it. Jill Reedy’s felted fiber sculptures and shadowbox scenes are tender tributes to animals. “When I’m in nature, I find peace,” she says. Kaia Burg’s energetic drawings of birds, trees, and neighborhood scenes toe the line between representation and abstraction. Victoria LaCroix’s intricately patterned drawings meditate on the virtues of wildlife and wild spaces. Daniel Metchnek’s bold paintings are expressive studies of animals (both real and fantastical) from across the globe. Mike Harris, Jr.’s paintings of bees explore the interconnection of bees and humans as well as rural and urban environments.
Through these nuanced and varied explorations of animals and the landscapes they call home, the artists create a larger portrait of nature and what it means to play a role in shaping it.
